What is AYA?

AYA is a collaborative initiative that brings together public, private, and philanthropic partners under national leadership to strengthen Ghana’s health system.
By aligning investments and expertise, AYA transforms fragmented efforts into a unified, system-wide response to the growing burden of non-communicable diseases.
GIZ serves as a neutral facilitator and coordinator, supporting government stewardship while keeping the platform open to new partners ready to contribute to long-term impact.

Vision

AYA’s vision 2030 is to ensure Ghanaians have access to a strengthened healthcare system, offering effective screening for selected NCDs, and the respective linkage to affordable, state-of-the-art care.

Monitoring & Evaluation

What AYA aims to achieve:

≤ 200,000 patients receiving
improved NCD care

AYA strengthens the quality and integration of hypertension and diabetes care across health facilities. Through better training, tools, and clinical resources, more patients receive accurate diagnosis, continuous follow-up, and improved control of blood pressure and blood glucose.

≤ 3,600 healthcare workers equipped to deliver high-quality chronic care

By supporting providers at all levels with practical training, guidelines, and digital tools, AYA enhances clinical capacity nationwide. This ensures that frontline staff are better prepared to screen, diagnose, manage, and monitor NCDs consistently and effectively.

> 2 million people reached through expanded screening, awareness, and system strengthening

AYA increases access to screening, essential equipment, and health information across Ghana’s regions. Strengthened data systems enable better monitoring and decision-making, ultimately improving prevention and early detection for millions.
